Definition of a Circular Economy

ˈsəːkjʊlə | ɪˈkɒnəmi

I might point out that 'Circular Economy' was not yet found in Australia's Macquarie Dictionary.

What is it?

1: The circular economy is based on three principles, driven by design:

2: an economic system based on using renewable resources, eliminating waste, and reusing and recycling material goods

3: a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible.

4: an economy that reuses and recycles resources to keep them in play for as long as possible.

Eg. One of the tenets of the circular economy is the idea that closing material and product loops will prevent primary production.

Comparative antonym

Linear Economy: an economic system based on collecting raw materials, using them to create consumer goods, and disposing of resulting waste products.

Who are they?

Whether a circular economy initiative, education, waste reduction, design innovation, global activism, conservationism, or 'just' a small local mom & pop shop who choose daily to contribute to something bigger than their bottom line,

that's where I want to put my money and my effort.

Every dollar you spend is a vote you cast for the world you want.

It's a stone you cast for the kind of ripples you're going to get.

Companies who care

I use and promote other businesses who are skipping stones to make positive impact ripples.
Refuse
Reduce
Reuse
Refill

The only way to enjoy a sustainable circular economy,

is to support it.

How do I?

There's limited number of Circular Economy models out there in Australia.

Usually run by small start-ups, not-for-profit organisations, or not-making-profit small businesses, they're going out of their way to provide products and services that fight the 'normal' linear direction towards waste.

They ensure that, for their part, they're not creating waste, and they're providing options so you don't have to either.

I've been working on a map to help me seek them out.

I hope it helps you too.

Help them, help us.
